Tim Walz and JD Vance will debate Tuesday night: With no more presidential debates on the schedule before the election in 34 days, the vice presidential debate will be the 2024 campaignâs final major prime-time event. And both candidates will stand, marking the first time since Joe Biden and Sarah Palin faced off in 2008 that VP debate participants wonât be sitting down. A tropical depression or tropical storm could form between Oct. 1 through Oct. 4 in the western Caribbean and then head into the Gulf of Mexico.
"It's too early for specifics, but anyone from the coast of Mexico through Florida will want to monitor this closely in the days ahead. Early indications are that it could be a threat to the U.S. Gulf Coast sometime either late next week" or Oct. 5-6, AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter said.
"It's following a similar track," as Helene, Porter said, "and it's developing very close to where Helene developed. Its path will be determined by steering winds," which could differ from conditions that determined Helene's path.

According to Baker Hughes ' latest report on Friday, U.S. energy firms reduced the number of oil and natural gas rigs for the second straight week. The overall rig count, an early indicator of future production, dropped by 1 to 587in the week ending September 27, marking the lowest level since early September. This leaves the total rig count 36 rigs, or 6%, lower than the same period last year.
Oil rigs saw a significant drop, falling by 4 to 484, their lowest since early September, while natural gas rigs increased by 3 to 99, the highest since late July. This was the first weekly reduction in oil rigs since mid-August and the largest single-week oil rig cut since late June.
Despite this week's decline, drillers still added oil rigs in September, marking the third consecutive month of gainsâthe first such streak since July 2022. Additionally, drillers increased the total number of oil and gas rigs by six in the third quarter, the first quarterly rise since 2022.

The Israeli military said on Saturday that it had killed Hassan Nasrallah, the longtime leader of Hezbollah, in an airstrike on the organizationâs underground headquarters near Beirut on Friday. Hezbollah has not commented on the Israeli claim.
The announcement came after Israeli forces launched a series of new airstrikes in the same Hezbollah-dominated area, known as the Dahiya, sending more residents fleeing for safety. Israelâs military said the strikes were intended to destroy Hezbollah weapons caches.
The bombing killed at least six people and injured dozens, according to Lebanonâs health ministry. The move came hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has brushed off international efforts toward a cease-fire, spoke at the UN and insisted that Israelâs campaign would continue. Lebanese and Palestinian officials addressed the assembly the day before, decrying Israelâs actions in its current conflicts.
